What it does

• Markdown, already formatted

  Markdown opens formatted, the way a word processor shows it: tables are edited as tables and Mermaid diagrams are drawn. The raw text appears only where it has to, in code and in a document's header.

• YAML and plain text

  YAML and plain text open in a plain editor, with problems marked where they are and a control to jump to the next one.

• Export when it is finished

  A document exports to HTML, PDF or Word. Word files are written, not opened.

• Nothing lost

  Work that was not saved comes back after a crash, and editing, previews and export all work without a network connection.

• At home on a Mac

  Folio can be the default app for text, Markdown and YAML, and Finder shows Markdown files as previews and thumbnails.

• On a phone, too

  A phone version keeps its own documents, backed up when you choose as a single archive in a folder you pick.

What it will not do

• One document at a time. Folio never opens a folder, so there is no file tree and no search across files.
• No syncing and no editing together in real time. A phone backup is a copy you make, not a sync.
• No plugins, no graph view and no backlinks.
• No agents, prompts or plans. Those are Studio's.

Where it stands

In development, and not yet released. The desktop app is for macOS; Windows and Linux are not among its targets.

Versions for Android and iOS are built, and wait on signing before they can be published.

Folio uses the same editor as Studio and adds only its own window around it, so it edits the way Studio does. Neither needs the other to run.
